5. Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert is an eagerly anticipated open-world action RPG developed by Pearl Abyss, a Korean studio know for developing the popular MMORPG Black Desert Online. Set in a vast and visually stunning fantasy world, the game promises a compelling single-player experience. It combines intense combat, exploration and a captivating storyline, offering player the freedom to shape the future of their characters and the Pywel, which is what the fast open world is called in Crimson Desert.

Focussing on a rich, immersive experience, Crimson Desert aims to deliver a compelling blend of action and storytelling in a visually stunning game world. We will for sure follow the development of this game closely!

Pearl Abyss didn’t release an exact release date but the game is scheduled for Q2 of 2024. However, rumors of delays are circulating online as well but this has not been officially confirmed by the studio.

4. Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a single player, heavily story driven action RPG developed and published by Capcom. The player has a large influence on how to experience the game by deciding on the appearance of the player character, which class is chosen and to how different encounters are handled in game.

One of the differentiators according to Capcom is that the rich story ensures you will encounter a lot of NPC’s, called Pawns, that through the story telling and the AI will feel like being joined by other players. The use of the RE Engine for the latest and high quality graphics is expected to complete the immersive experience.

The game mechanics look really exceptional and deep. Vocations are different classes ranging from a traditional Fighter or Archer to combined classes like Magick Archer or Trickster. Each vocation has their speciality allowing a large range of play styles. Another option are Pawns, those earlier mentioned companions a player will run into. Each player will be able to lead a part of up to 3 Pawn allowing 1 Pawn to be fully customizable and that will accompany a player through the full journey. This dedicated Pawn will learn through experience and improve through time and become a worthy companion.

Lastly, the game will pass time using day and night cycles. Each cycle will have their own specific properties but it is to be expected that the night cycle will bring out additional challenges.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is scheduled to be release on March 22nd on PS5, Xbox and Steam!

3. The Witcher 4

Sadly, not much is known about The Witcher 4, the next installment in the very successful series developed and published by CD Projekt Red. The details that circulate on the internet is that the studio reallocated its resources to work on this project with codename Polaris. The other important detail that is known is that this installment is the first of 3 installments, so the good news is that the Witcher 5 and 6 are announced as well!

The project was announced in October 2022 with the additional message that it would at least take 3 years to develop the game. Simple math that means that the earliest we can expect this game in October 2025. Reasons for the long develop are the application of new technologies and the use of the Unreal 5 Engine (opposed to CD Projekt Red own proprietary game engine).

We will obviously report here if any news or media is released!

2. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the long awaited sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake that was released in April, 2020. Both games combined are a remake of the original Final Fantasy 7 game that was released in January 1997 on Playstation 1. Square Enix, the published and developer of this game, took an interesting approach to break the refresh of the original game into multiple releases. One can guess this was because of workload (as these games take time to develop) but there is of course a very obvious financial benefit to it as well.

As the story follows after the previous installment it is advisable to play Final Fantasy VII Remake before playing Rebirth. Although this is not a hard requirement, the experience from Remake are expected to put the events of Rebirth in context. It is like watching a movie and jump in halfway. You might understand the what is going on but you obviously missed a large chunk of context.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has a more open world character than Remake which will allow players to deviate from the main story. This will likely result in players being able to spent a lot of time in the game and will provide players with a lot more freedom compared the previous installment. To move around the game will offer different means of transportation, with the traditional Chocobos being one of the options.

Red XIII was part of Final Fantasy VII Remake, but wasn’t really a playable character like Cloud or Barret. In Rebirth this will be the case with Red XIII being fully playable. The same is the case for Cait Sith, the cat like character who had a cameo in Remake.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is scheduled for release on February 29th only on Playstation 5 and is currently going for $69.99. The game will be exclusive on PS 5 until end of May. If you preorder the game from your Playstation 5 while having save games on your system from Remake and/or Intermission you will receive the following Materia – Leviathan and/or Ramuh. This is only applicable to the digital version as the saved data needs to be on the system from which you will play the game.

1. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

The most anticipated RPG game to play in 2024 is Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game fits the profile of a Soulslike game including punishing combat, atmospheric storytelling and a high level of difficulty that often results in death and setbacks. The game is a collaboration between Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Margin (writer of the Game of Thrones books and HBO series).

FromSoftware has not released any information about the exact release date of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. During an interview at The Game Awards late last year Yasuhiro Kitao said “It’s still a little ways off, but progress is going well“. However, mid-December potential release information was leaked showing that the release of this expansion might be sooner than anticipated. A specific Elden Ring themed controller was shown on a product page with the following note: “Sync with the new ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ expansion release – Elden Ring Anniversary” with additional information saying “Available February 2024”. Keeping our fingers crossed for a February 2024 release, that is next month!
