First thoughts - Diablo 4 - Vessel of Hatred

Hey all,

Due to being on holiday I was a couple of days late to the party with the Diablo 4 - Vessel of Hatred release and the start of season 6. However I just leveled my new Spiritborn character to level 60 (the new max level) and finished the new campaign.

I am really curious to read what you think about this expansion, about the new class and about some of the new game mechanics. I will get into a bit more details soon but will give my current view on how well the game is doing.

Spiritborn class: 7 out of 10.

So far I only played a centipede build that does what it should do but didn’t give me the feeling like some of the classes I played in the last 2 seasons. Still, I think there is a lot more to explore and so far I am having fun with the build.

Vessel of Hatred Story: 5 out of 10.

I think the story wasn’t bad, I also don’t think it was great. Without giving away spoilers I just think it was bland and lacked some of the “ow wow” moments that I remember having when playing Diablo 2. There is no real “I didn’t expect that” or “that is a huge surprise” in any the story. Interestingly it seems to be 1 of the quickest ways to level your character… which is interesting. I will likely not play the campaign nor this part again, which says a lot.

Season 6 - Season of Hatred: 6.5 out of 10

The main reason for not giving a higher score is because so many things (everything) changed and I am still figuring out how things work. It is basically a full overhaul. The good thing is, the game has a significant amount more end game content. However I am not sure this expansion and season will change the fact that a some point in the game the fun just goes vertical off a cliff for me. I am curious if they have been able to change the game to ensure engagement till the end of the season.

Curious to hear what you think about the current state of the game and the new expansion!
